Whether you're going for your biggest dream ever or a smaller goal, we all know that sometimes keeping motivation to move forward can be tricky when you hit a rough patch in the road. We have three easy steps to keep in mind when your motivational roadblock hits to keep you moving toward achieving your goal.
You need three things when working toward a goal. Your why, your how and your who. As long as you have these three things, you are able to create a clear picture of what your goal looks like, why you want to achieve it, how you are going to get there and who will be able to help you along the way. These are the exact same steps to remember when you lose motivation when things seem too hard to go on.
Your Why
Your why is the most important aspect of your goal. Unless you have a strong reason for achieving your goal, why would you have the goal in the first place, right? Maybe your why is a member of your family, maybe your why is to prove something to yourself or someone else or maybe you want to break through your self-doubt. Whatever your reason is for starting, it must be the same reason that carries you through the hard parts on your journey to achievement. Always keep your why in mind, feel the struggle of achieving your goal and keep going anyway.
Your How
Your how is a very important step to retaining or regaining motivation to work towards your goal. If you don’t know how you are going to achieve your goal, then it’s no surprise it feels overwhelming and all guidance and motivation is out the window. Of course, you can’t possibly know everything you need to do to achieve your goal because things will always occur unexpectedly and require you to resolve unplanned events along the way. However, the more you can plan out your method of achievement, you will feel less stressed and instead more motivated and inspired to chase the dream. Maybe your how is creating a schedule to follow daily, weekly or monthly. Maybe your how is finding ways to overcome things you don’t know how to do such as online training courses, or maybe it is finding ways to create the extra income you would need in order to achieve your goal. Once you are clear on how you are going to get from where you started to your end goal, your motivation will come to you like it never has before.
Your Who
Your who can be handy to know in times of hardship. Your who can be the person, resource or group where you can receive help, advice or support when you need it. Your who acts as a safety net when you lose sight of achievement of your goals. Your who could be a Youtube creator who uploads helpful tutorial videos that you can learn from, it could be a friend who you can talk to or it could be a Facebook group of likeminded people where you can relate to people going through the same journey as you. Whoever your who may be, make sure you keep them in the back of your mind ready when you might need them.
When you are clear on your why, your how and your who, your motivation will be higher than ever before. Knowing why we want to do something inspires us, knowing how we will do something motivates us and knowing who we can turn to when times get rough empowers us. Your why, your how and your who will leave your feeling unstoppable.
